An educational workshop for Family, Friends and Caregivers who have a Loved One (LO) that struggles with substance use. This VIRTUAL workshop will offer an opportunity to increase understanding on addiction, behaviours related to use and how to provide support without losing oneself.

Family Spiral is a 2-evening education program for family members, friends and support persons who are concerned about someone experiencing problematic substance use, behavioural addiction or a related mental health issue. Family Spiral is an introduction to Rideauwood’s family and parent counselling services. Participants learn about addiction and how it affects families, while connecting with others who are experiencing concerns and challenges similar to their own.

Acu-Detox auricular acupuncture is used to support mental health and substance use recovery. Disposable needles are inserted into five acupuncture points on the ears while participants sit silently in a circle for 30 minutes. This practice is intended to create a peaceful quiet space for healing. It is intended to be used as an adjunct to counseling, education, medical support and support groups. Being close to someone who is struggling with addiction can be frustrating, painful and sometimes feel like a lonely journey. We want to offer support so that you do not lose yourself on this journey. These meetings will offer an opportunity to learn how you can develop skills to then help you cope and help your loved one choose recovery and most importantly, to meet with others who are walking/have walked similar journeys. Join us once, every week, or whenever you feel the need to connect.

For individuals 18+ years old who have substance use AND mental health concerns. This 1.5 hour weekly group runs for approximately 3 months and is ideal for participants searching for community connection, to better understand the relationship between their substance use and mental health, to learn evidence-based coping strategies, and who are feeling ready to take steps toward change.
